Home Switching

This is how the story of Henry begins (by Caleb, grade 7).

Hello, my name is Henry.  I am the best rock in all of the land. I live in Gideon, Missouri. My friend’s name is Harold. I have traveled a long way from where I started.

It isn’t easy being a rock, you know. It’s hard to travel and not be seen. Rocks have to move at night so people don’t see them. Have you ever seen a rock moving around? That’s right you haven’t because you’re not supposed to.

We also have a hard time eating. I’m not going to explain to you what we eat but it is a difficult task. We also have birthday parties just like you do. Mine is October 17. In the rock community we celebrate each other’s birthdays by moving a mile to the west. It is kind of like a vacation. The when the week is over we move back.

When you’re a rock there is something called home switching and that is what we do when we turn 12. It is my time to find new homes, but I don’t like to stay at a home to long or I’ll get cranky (I am a monster you know).

To be continued…

Henry (GSD1) is part of a series of monster rocks created by students of Gideon School District in Missouri.

We invite you to visit all GSD rocks and submit your comments and feedback, it will be much appreciated. If you have found this rock or would like to continue this story, let us know!
