About our Founder

Hi and thank you your interest in Rock Thoughts. My name is Karla Valenti and I am a writer of children’s book. I started Rock Thoughts in 2010 with the aim of empowering children through creativity and opportunities for collaboration.

I wanted children to experience the power of their words and their art; to see how their actions and creations, could inspire others – anywhere in the world. I wanted children to feel that they could create a hero – not just in rock form, but in themselves.

Since our launch, we have worked with children, adults, teachers, artists, and storytellers in 18 countries and we have over 2,000 rocks in play. Our rocks have traveled across continents, hiked up volcanoes, and even gone on a Carribean cruise. We’ve heard from people who found rocks two years after they went out into the wild, people who fell in love with their rocks and decided to keep them by their night stand, and people who have used Rock Thoughts as a resource to promote important ideas on social justice and  individual empowerment.

This project is free and open to anyone who wishes to participate. Feel free to contact us for details on how you can get involved.

One final note – I manage this project on my own and in my free time. I do not charge participants, nor do I expect any payment. I do this simply because I think it is an important idea to spread. That said, I humbly take a page out of Amanda Palmer’s book (and her remarkable TED talk, “The Art of Asking“) and ask that if you like what I am doing here, please consider making a donation to help keep this project going.

Thank you!
