(Creston) -- The softball wing of the KMA Sports Hall of Fame finally has a left-handed pitcher.
Creston legend Madison (Frain) Peterson was formally inducted into the KMA Sports Hall of Fame Thursday night during a ceremony in between games of Creston's doubleheader against Atlantic.
"It's such an honor," Peterson said, "I can't thank everyone enough who came out to the game today, they're the reason I was able to get inducted. Having the teammates that I did and all that, I'm so thankful. I can't thank them enough for everything."
During her storied career, Peterson won 148 games, 75 of which were shutouts, struck out 1,648 batters, was named first team all-Hawkeye Ten five consecutive years and boasted a career ERA of 0.99. Peterson also holds the Creston school records for single season strikeouts (348), single season shutouts (21) and single season ERA (0.86).
Peterson attributes her dominant accolades to the support of her parents; Kim and Darrell, who served as a longtime coach at Creston and is now the activities director at Riverside.
"My parents were the whole reason that I went to practice and went to lifting. Without them, I couldn't have done this. They were there for everything and they were 100 percent the reason I was the pitcher I was." Peterson said.
Peterson played softball collegiately at the University of South Dakota where she ranks in third in school history in career wins (41), fourth in career strikeouts (322) and sixth in career complete games (46).
Peterson joins Treynor alumna Madison Keysor and Fremont-Mills legend Mindy Lorimor in the softball wing of the KMA Sports Hall of Fame.
