One of the highlights that we focus on at the beginning of the Iowa State Fair is the Iowa Governor’s Charity Steer show, which raises money for the Ronald McDonald Houses in Iowa. This year will be the 41st show. The kids that are chosen to show a steer with their celebrity showperson are excited, but also putting in a lot of hard work to have their steer ready to go at the prestigious event.

One of those kids is Emma Wayson from Mt. Auburn in Benton County. She will be showing in this year’s show, her first year showing in general, and her celebrity showperson will be none other than Iowa Ag Secretary Mike Naig. She talks about the work she does with her steer, Junior.

Emma says she feels honored to be part of the Governor’s Charity Steer Show in her first year of showing. She is also honored to have Secretary Mike Naig as her celebrity showperson.

Emma also says the fun is in making new friends.

The Iowa Governor’s Charity Steer Show is on Saturday, August 12th at 4:30 pm.
