This post was originally published in 2012 but we love the Social Justice Project and wanted to revisit some of these great stories.
This is how the story of Mahatma Gandhi begins (by Nadia L., Visual Arts Teacher).
I am the man of courage.
I changed India but I’m not a hero just a person like you. I saw discrimination in India and this made me take part in the Movement for India’s Independence. I believed in non-violence, that was my key to freedom for the people of India. I persevered through resistance to my ideals and went to jail repeatedly for what I believed in. Eventually, I spearheaded the Movement and forced the British to leave India. All throughout my life, I practiced non-violence and truth, and advocated the need to follow these principles.
My name is Mahatma Gandhi.
